PILATES & REHABILITATION

During pregnancy, your body experiences drastic changes in a short period of time. Many of these changes are brought about by the increased amount of specific hormones that act to soften the ligaments of your pelvis to accommodate for your growing baby and to optimise movement in your joints to allow for adequate expansion during labour.

Although this process is imperative, unfortunately, it can also be the cause of discomfort and postural change throughout pregnancy and postnatally and has the potential to exacerbate any previous ailments and niggles.

It is important that as a pregnant women, you retain strength with the right form of exercise that will not add to the already heightened stress on your joints but still allow for the softening process that is so imperative.

Each trimester brings with it slightly different changes and demands on your body and must be taken into consideration when designing an exercise program.

Our team at The Body Bloom will always incorporate a pilates style rehabilitation programme into your management plan where needed to ensure you remain at your peak physical condition throughout all stages of childbearing.

Through our tailored pilates programmes, we aim to:

Build a strong inner core to brace the spine and support the extra weight of the growing baby and to provide stability for joints;

Improve the function of the pelvic floor muscles to provide continuous support for the uterus and reduce weakening and stretching of the pelvic floor during and after pregnancy; and

Build a strong and supported body prior to starting strenuous exercise again postnatally to avoid injury.
